Membership is open to all adults with a focus on people who are no longer in full-time employment, raising a family or retired and provides the opportunity to enjoy a diverse selection of educational, social, recreational and creative activities in an informal and friendly atmosphere with like minded people.
Most activities are Monday to Friday between 9.00am and 5.00pm and are located at sites in and around Stone.
If you fancy "dipping your toe in the water" contact the group(s) of interest via the links on the Groups page - most groups are happy to offer free taster sessions.
The annual membership fee from September 1st 2024 is £50 which includes the annual subscription and fees to attend sessions/groups as well as our newsletter.
Stone and District u3a is a registered charity and is run by a Management Committee of volunteers who are elected at the AGM. All the groups are also led by volunteers who have a skill, knowledge, or area of expertise which they are happy to share with others.

ABOUT THE u3a
The u3a is a learning co-operative of adults. Although titled the "University of the Third Age" they pursue an amazing range of topics - mostly recreational, some academic without those stressful exams! Activities are organised mainly in small groups that meet regularly. Members, through sharing their knowledge, skills and experience, learn from each other.
All local u3as are autonomous but are members of The Third Age Trust. The Trust is a national, umbrella body (a Registered Charity and Limited Company) that represents all u3as at a national and international level. There are over 1000 u3as in the UK involving over 400,000 members, with more joining all the time.
The Aims of the u3a are:
- To encourage and enable people who have retired or are not in full-time employment to help each other to share their knowledge, skills, interests and experience.
- To make u3as accessible to all eligible people.
- To encourage the establishment of u3as in every part of the country where conditions are suitable and to support and collaborate with them.
